of visit by Fons van Gent to Maubuisson
On July 20th en 21st I visited the Club de Voile de Bordeaux (CVB) in Maubuisson, which is the club that will host the Finn World Masters in 2009.
The dates for the event are:
- Practice race onSunday May 31st
- Races form MondayJune 1st till Friday June 5th.
The Committee is very cooperative and they are looking forward to our event with up to 200 competitors. The President of the club is
Mrs. Brigitte Viaud and the contact person for the FWM is Mr. Jean-Claude Roumillac, who is Finn Master himself.
We have been discussing the complete format, including the courses, ladies programme, socials, website entry, camping places, measurement, boat locations, etc. I have great faith in their organization talents and I am sure we can look forward to a good event in a beautiful sailing area. Those Finn Masters who competed in the FWM in 1999 in Maubuisson will have good memories to this event.
Maubuisson is situated about 60 km North-West from Bordeaux, in a famous wine area. The racing area, Lake Carcans, is close to the Atlantic Ocean, so we will sail in sea breezes on fresh water. In the neighborhood you’ll find pine woods with possibilities for biking and walking for those who want to combine their FWM with a holiday. For Finn Masters playing golf, there is a beautiful golf link with a good hotel in the middle of the woods. At the ocean side you find Lacaneau Ocean, with beautiful beaches, where you can practice golf surfing. Food is OK everywhere, with lots of sea food like oysters, shrimps, etc. at reasonable rates.
The CVB is working on a FWM 2009 website and we can expect it to be on air in September of this year. This site will allow you to enter, but will also show possibilities for your accommodation and later, the Notice of Race and other relevant information.
