A third candidate for the Finn Masters 2014
"On January 28th, 2012 I received a written candidacy from Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club in Los Angeles, USA. This club wished to be the third candidate for the Finn World Masters in 2014.
This provides us three candidates for 2014. You can read the bid information from all candidates under the tab "Candidates".
I decided to postpone an inspection of the venue in LA until we know the outcome of the voting. We will not accept more candidates for 2014 now. Voting between 3 candidates will be enough.
The Masters Guidelines indicate that new candidacies must be officially announced before the 1st of February".

Message from
Mike Till
To all Finn
Masters:
Our Masters Committee Member Mike Till (GBR 55) sent me the following message:
He had an accident in a race on an 44 ft sailing boat on the last day of a racing series. While lowering the spinnaker his hand was dragged into the winch. Three fingers of his left hand were completely crushed down to the bone. He had plastic surgery on the three fingers and must wait to see the results. The main issue is that he is worried about being able to use his left hand to sheet in the main on the Finn. He won't know about this for some time, but he will not be Finn sailing this year.
Mikes comments were: As they say: shit happens!
Obviously it will take time to completely heal and he’ll have to do physiotherapy.
On behalf of all Finn Masters I wish him a soon recovery and we all hope he’ll be able to continue Finn sailing with us.
All the best, Mike!

- March 19, 2011: Yacht Club de Cannes has withdrawn its candidacy for 2013. The President wrote me that the club has, in the Master’s period in 2013, important works in its harbour, so, for 2013, we will have two venues to vote between: Maubuisson and La Rochelle, both in France.

February 17, 2011:
Third candidate for the Finn World Masters in 2013
On January 28th I received an e-mail from the Société des Régates Rochelaises in La Rochelle, France. They informed me that they wish to be a candidate for the Finn World Masters in 2013. This means that they will be the third candidate for 2013 and that the Masters 2013 will be held in France anyhow (Cannes, Maubuisson or La Rochelle).
In Punta Ala, next June, all candidates will present their selves to the Annual Masters Meeting.

After these presentations we will vote for the venue in 2013.
The Masters were in La Rochelle in 1996, together
with the Gold Cup. It was the first time
the Finn Class had two
important Finn events on one location. The organization and the
venue were perfect then, as far I can remember, but the club
indicated that a lot has been
changed since that time, so I will
visit them, together with Yves Zoccola, next April 1st
and 2nd.
As we know Cercle de Voile de Bordeaux in Maubuisson
very well it will not be necessary
to visit them again. We know that
venue is OK.
I invited all candidates to send me a short
pre-presentation so we can put these on the Masters
website in order
to provide you with some information prior to the extensive
presentations in Punta Ala.
I am looking forward to meet you all in Punta Ala, next June and I hope the presentations of the three venues will enable us to make a good decision for the venue in 2013 and I wish you all a good start of the sailing season, a lot of training and races, maybe with new equipment, so we will all be well prepared for the competition in Punta Ala.

January 18, 2011:
GEORG
OSER 1-2-1935 - 12-1-2011
Dear Finn Masters,
Today, January 18th, I received the sad message that Georg (Schorsch) Oser, has died on January 12th.
Georg has been the driving power behind the Finn World Masters for many years, until he passed over the Master’s leadership to Rolf Lehnert in 1993, in Bracciano. He made the Finn World Master Championship to a level where every Finn sailor worldwide was eager to compete in. In those years already a lot of Finn sailors could hardly wait to become 40 years old, as it still is now.
We will remember him as a joyful and very sympathetic friend, who was pretty hard on himself. I saw him sailing the Masters with a stiff harness because of a serious back injury. But he sailed because he loved it.
On behalf of all Finn Masters worldwide I wish his family the strength to deal with this loss and this is for Finn sailors who knew him well, too.
