NEWS UPDATE

The organization of our Finn World Masters in Maubuisson from May 31st till June 5th, 2009 is going on. My contacts with the Cercle de la Voile de Bordeaux (CVB) are very constructive and friendly and so are those between the CVB and my webmaster, Jan Kingma.

As you may have seen the Notice of Race is online now and up till today (December 6, 2008) 26 Finn Masters have entered.

I received remarks about the way the CVB has arranged the entries, but I discussed this matter with them, last July and they preferred to do it this way. My idea is that an organizing club has the right to organize some items on their own way.

I have faith in the amount of sailors we can expect.

The website now shows a lot of information, such as the schedule, the accommodation possibilities and the Ladies Programme. This is, of course, a very important programme, for we have to keep our ladies satisfied in order to have permission to sail the yearly Masters!

At this moment I have contact with the Labud Sailing Club in Split, Croatia, which will organize the Masters in 2010.
At first, contact appeared to be difficult, because there was no information available, although we voted for this location during the Annual Meeting in Murcia in 2007. Fortunately I succeeded in restoring the contact and the club confirmed the organization in 2010. Next spring I will visit the Labud Sailing Club to discuss the details about the organization.

For the Masters in 2011 I received nominations from two locations:

1- ”Sailing Club Circolo Velico Cala Civette” in Punta Ala, Italy, which is close to the island of Elba.

2- ”Pwllheli Sailing Club” in Pwllheli, Northern Wales, United Kingdom.

I sent both clubs the ”Guidelines for the organization of the Finn World Masters” and invited them to give a presentation during the Masters Annual Meeting on Wednesday June 3rd, 2009 in Maubuisson, so we will be able to choose one of the locations.

Further on I have information about the interest of some locations, such as Kingston/Ontario in Canada and a club in Patras, Greece. In Kingston we sailed in 2001, but we were never in Patras with our Championship. In the near future
I will contact these locations in order to start the exchange of information.

I hope I informed you about the current activities around the Masters and I will keep you informed regularly. Whenever you have questions, comments and/or suggestions, please let me know through the ”Contact” button on this website.

With Finn greetings, Fons van Gent
(Vice-) President Masters’ Fleet.
